Zeromile is an old idea come around again: a dual cooperative model rooted in food justice, economic sovereignty, and community collaboration. Through our Producer Co-op  small producers of all kinds access affordable production space, shared resources, and opportunities for collaborative revenue-sharing and retail. Our Worker Co-op manages the space, back end services and co-develops programs and campaigns that deliver education and visibility for Zeromile. The Member Co-op, or buyers cooperative, when activated, will support more affordable food access.

Driven by a vision to decentralize power in food production, Zeromile fosters partnerships between farms, cooks, fermenters and community members to create value-added products, expand food access, and further build resilient food systems. As a replicable model, Zeromile aims to inspire other communities to build localized systems that support both people and planet.

What does the name mean?

Zeromile refers to the foot print of food, or the miles from which food originates, and the goal to make that as short as possible. Less milage, less diesel, less middlemen; This translates to more direct support to farmers, to retailers, to consumers and, ultimately, less negative environmental impact. Supply chains, or more appropriately, value chains, should have as few hands as possible to prevent spoilage, unnecessary cost, and no broken links of distribution like the ones we saw during the outbreak of COVID.
